Ranking Modalities
A ranking modality is a specific division within a ranking. It combines modality, gender, and age category to create an independent standings table for each group of players.
What defines a modality
| Dimension | Examples |
|---|---|
| Modality | Singles, Doubles, Teams |
| Gender | Masculine, Feminine, Mixed |
| Age category | U12, U14, U18, Open, 40+, etc. |
| Subcategory | Optional — e.g., weight class in combat sports |
Each unique combination creates an independent modality with its own standings.
Creating a ranking modality
- Go to your community Dashboard → Rankings.
- Open the ranking you want to configure.
- Go to the Categories tab.
- Click Add modality.
- Select:
- Modality (Singles, Doubles, Teams)
- Gender
- Age category
- Subcategory (if applicable)
- Save.
Managing multiple modalities simultaneously
You can run multiple modalities in parallel. For example:
- A points-based modality for official club rankings
- An ELO modality for competitive skill tracking
- A win-ratio modality for recreational players
All three can draw data from the same tournament results.
Filtering rankings by modality
On the public ranking page, viewers can use filters to switch between modalities. The filter options include:
- Modality — Singles, Doubles, Teams
- Gender — Masculine, Feminine, Mixed
- Age category — all configured age brackets
- Subcategory — if applicable
Additionally, viewers can filter by club or search by player name.
Linking a modality to a tournament category
For a tournament to contribute points to a modality, the tournament category (Valid) must be linked to that modality:
- Open the tournament category (Valid) settings.
- Click Assign Ranking.
- Select the ranking modality.
- Save.
