Managing Referees in a Tournament

Referees can be assigned to matches during the tournament. Torneos MVP supports both pre-assigning referees before play starts and assigning them on the fly from the live control panel.

Prerequisites

Before you can assign referees to a tournament, they must exist in your community's People directory as the Referee person type. See Managing Referees for how to add them.

Adding referees to your tournament

  1. Open your tournament and go to Referees in the side navigation.
  2. Click Add referee or the + button.
  3. Search for the referee by name from your community's People directory.
  4. Select and confirm.

The referee now appears in your tournament's available referees list and can be assigned to matches.

Torneos MVP can generate a unique access link for each referee. This link gives the referee access to their assigned matches without needing a platform account — ideal for guest referees.

  1. Open your tournament's Referees section.
  2. Find the referee and click Generate link or the share icon.
  3. Copy the generated link.
  4. Share the link with the referee via WhatsApp, email, or any other channel.

The referee opens the link on their phone or tablet and lands directly on their assigned matches panel. See Referee Panel for what referees see and how they enter scores.

Tip: Generate all referee links before the event starts and share them during the pre-tournament briefing. This saves time when matches begin.

Assigning a referee to a match

During the live event, you assign referees to specific matches from the Live Control panel:

  1. Open the live control panel.
  2. Find the match (in the queue or on a court).
  3. Click Assign referee or the referee icon.
  4. Select the referee from the available list.
  5. Confirm.

The referee's panel updates automatically — the assigned match appears in their list.

See Live Control — Assigning Matches for the full live control workflow.

Referee alerts

If a match is called to a court without a referee assigned, the live control panel displays a "No referee" alert on that court card. Assign a referee to clear the alert.

Referee types

Referees in Torneos MVP can be classified by type (e.g., head referee, line referee, table judge). The specific types available depend on your community's configuration and can be managed in the community settings.

Best practices for referee management

  • Register all referees in advance — add them to your People directory before the tournament day
  • Generate links ahead of time — have links ready to share at the pre-event briefing
  • Assign referees as you assign courts — this avoids "No referee" alerts
  • Rotate referees — spread the workload evenly, especially in long tournaments
  • Use referee certifications — track referee qualifications with Validations to ensure the right referees are assigned to the right matches
